Affordable California Campaign: Everyone Deserves a Home They Can Afford
Too many Californians are struggling to stay housed. We’re fighting to change that.

The Affordable California Campaign is a set of proposed policies led by Housing Now!, PICO California, ACCE, Public Advocates, Housing California, Tenants Together, AAPI FORCE-EF, CHIRLA, Western Center, and many other community groups, that would:
- ➡️ Keep mobilehome park rents fair: Cap rent increases to protect residents from sudden, unaffordable hikes.
- ➡️ Stop unjust evictions of immigrant families: Protect tenants from eviction when income is disrupted by immigration enforcement.
- ➡️ Give tenants more time to stay housed: Extend eviction notice periods from 3 days to 14 days so people have a real chance to catch up on rent.
- ➡️ Acquire & rehab unsubsidized homes: Preserve existing affordable housing and prevent displacement by investing in repairs and long-term affordability.
- ➡️ Create more affordable homes: Build and preserve housing through a $10 billion investment for low-income communities, seniors, and families.
- ➡️ Invest in housing long-term: Require California to plan for and fund the production of 1 million affordable homes.
- ➡️ Bring in billions from banks: Generate up to $15 billion annually from financial institutions to reinvest in housing and communities.
With these changes, families can stay in their homes without being forced out. Kids and seniors will have safe, stable places to live. People can focus on school, work, and health instead of constantly worrying about rent. And together, we can make California a leader in treating housing as a basic human right. Right now, we know that:
-
📌 More than half of people who rent spend too much of their paycheck on housing.
- 📌 Rent keeps going up, but wages haven’t kept pace.
-
📌 Families, seniors, and young people are being pushed out of their homes. In California, almost 4 out of 10 people without housing are over the age of 50, showing that more and more older adults are becoming homeless.
- 📌 Housing is a basic need, just like food and water. Everyone deserves a safe and stable place to live.
